Can I contract an STD from receiving oral sex?
January 20, 2008
I'm a bi-guy. One day before swimming at a public pool, a man came up to me and asked me if he could suck my dick. Wanting to experiment for the first time, I agreed. Know my question is can I get any diseases from this encounter or not? And should I get tested for STDs and AIDS? Or am my just making a big deal out a small problem?
The technical answer to your question is yes. Unprotected oral sex can result in exposure to syphilis, gonorrhea, nongonococcal urethritis, herpes, hepatitis, and HIV.
Fortunately, several of those diseases usually have immediately symptoms (such as painful urination) that are clearly noticeable and would prompt you to see a doctor. And while HIV may not be so obvious at first, it is much more difficult to transmit by receiving oral sex.
If you have a history of having unprotected sex with multiple partners, you may want to have yourself checked for HIV and STDs just to be on the safe side. But if it is just this encounter, you should monitor yourself for the first month or two after your sexual experience. If you have any unusual symptoms, such as painful urination, a fever, a rash, sores on your cock and balls, discharge (pus) coming out of your cockhead, or an unusual stain in the front of your underwear, you should see your doctor immediately.
In reality, I wouldn't worry too much. While it is possible to contract an STD from receiving oral sex, the relative probabilities of it are low. As long as you don't notice any symptoms over the next couple of weeks then you're probably fine. If every anonymous blowjob resulted in an STD the clinics would be packed full of gay men on a daily basis.
