How can I be more clean in my anus?

January 20, 2008
I'm a married white man who just started playing around with men in the past year. I've jerked off with a few guys and sucked on their dicks but did not let them come in my mouth. I have never been fucked by or fucked a guy in the ass but the thought turns me on. My problem is that I seem to have lost the tight pucker I used to have. My ass seems to sweat and itch like crazy at times and when I stick a finger "down there" I am really wet. I get an awful lot of skid marks in my shorts also. What's wrong? Did I loosen myself up too much? Could I have simply irritated my ass too much? Does an asshole provide any natural lubrication?—Anonymous
Whoa! Don’t panic, friend. I’m sure your anal troubles are a pain in the ass (ha ha!), but they’re not as bad as you think. A bit of time, effort, creativity, and a trip or two to your local drug store should be all you need.

For starters, know that your condition is known as "fecal soiling." It’s not serious at all, although it is quite annoying and embarrassing. It happens to a lot of people at different stages in their life, often for no real reason. It’s also troublesome for men and women who like being fucked anally, although you haven’t done that yet. It does not typically get worse than how it is already, so don’t worry that you’re going to lose complete control of your bowels.

Simply put, fecal soiling is when your anus isn’t as clean as it needs to be. This can occur because of dietary or digestive problems, childbirth, weakened sphincter muscles (like after anal sex), inadequate wiping, hemorrhoids, overuse of enemas, or for no obvious reason. It can also happen because the sphincter muscles close too early trapping feces within the anal canal. However it happens, sweat gradually dissolves the feces which slowly coat the anus and your underwear, thus a “skid mark.” The skid marks are not being caused by any sort of natural lubrication like a vagina produces. It is possible for some people to have anal sex without lubrication, but that has nothing to do with the issue here.

To eliminate this problem, start by eliminating milk products (milk, ice cream, cheese, yogurt, etc.) from your diet for a few weeks. Give your anus a break too as far as being fucked (which you don’t do anyway), sex toys, fisting, and enemas are concerned. Add more fiber to your diet too if your bowel movements (I hate that phrase but hate "shit" even more) are not well-formed and require a lot of wiping to clean off. You can find fiber in carrots, peas, corn, zucchini, tomatoes, beans, brown rice, all fruits, and green, leafy vegetables. Look on the labels on the side of the products you buy to see how much fiber is in them. Unless you suffer from constipation, the more the better.

Until your diet solves the worst of your problems, you may also want to clean yourself out by using an ear syringe filled with warm water to give yourself a mini-enema. Do this after you poop and wipe yourself off. Buy yourself a package of "baby wipes" or Tucks pads, too. They can be especially helpful in cleaning yourself off when everything is a mess. Don’t worry that you aren’t making your insides immaculate. That’s not the job here " you are just trying to clean out the first inch or two inside the your anus.

Just remember, changes in your diet are what are likely to make the most long-term change, not cleaning yourself off when you use the bathroom. If a few weeks of experimentation don’t help with the problem, talk to your doctor. He has seen far more embarrassing problems than this, and you’ll want to get problem cleaned up (haha again!) before you start bottoming.—Aaron Lawrence
