What should I do about a rash on my butt?

January 19, 2008
Once in a while I will get what appears like acne on my back side (butt). This has been going on for years. I don't think it is any type of disease or anything like that. The problem is that I want to try being a bottom, but I am too embarrassed to do it if I may have the acne there. Do you have any advice or even know what this might be?—Anonymous
It sounds like you may have folliculitis, a common minor infection of the hair follicles. Try using antibiotic wipes to clean the area during an outbreak. If the problem persists, see your doctor or a dermatologist when you have an outbreak. He may give you an ointment or oral medication to help clear up the problem. And you're right, shaving can make it worse. If you have to shave there for some reason (which you don't), use a disposable razor and change the blades after every use.—Aaron Lawrence
