Did I contract HIV from my first blowjob?

January 19, 2008
I had my first blow job from a guy. I am worried whether it was safe to get sucked and cum in his mouth? I was tested for HIV after three months of exposure, and was found to be HIV-Negative. Is a re-test necessary? And do I need to be worried?—Anonymous
Congrats on having sex with a guy. Ain't it fun? As far as your risks go, you have essentially nothing to be worried about. It is extremely difficult to contract HIV by receiving oral sex. The chances that you contracted HIV from him are even less than that, as you were tested for HIV three months after the fact and found to be negative.

At this point in time, you have nothing to worry about. Your chances of having contracted HIV from that experiences are tens or hundreds of thousands to one. Your chances of being killed in a car accident are much greater. As for re-testing, you should continue to be tested every six months if you remain sexually active, or every three months if you are with numerous partners or start barebacking. That goes for men and women, by the way. So if you're tramping around with half of the local sorority, make a point of playing safe and being tested for HIV regularly.—Aaron Lawrence
