How does one make a gloryhole?

January 21, 2008
This is just a want-to-know-because-I-am-curious question. Where and how did the term "gloryhole" come about? Also, some gloryholes in restrooms etc. are obviously carved out over time with a pocketknife etc. But I have seen some that are perfect circles. Who goes in there with a jigsaw and cuts those wonderful holes?—Anonymous
Having a major fetish for being sucked off through gloryholes, I was curious about this question myself. So I turned to an expert on the subject, Keith Griffith, the webmaster of Cruisingforsex.com. Here's what he had to say:

Aaron: Where/When/How did the term "gloryhole" come about?

Keith: I have never heard how this term came about. It would seem logical, though, that it has something to do with the 'glorious' sex one can have through a hole.

Aaron: Who cuts the perfect holes for gloryholes, anyway? My guess would be that the "nicer" holes are made by store owners/managers/employees, while the ones that still have their splinters are amateurishly made. Any thoughts?

Keith: Believe it or not, there are men who travel around with their power drills opening up holes all over. Many of them are actually very nicely done since anyone who would go to this much trouble understands the need that the hole be safe for a dick. Wood works best, but I've seen holes drilled through marble and steel. I have NEVER met a wall that was gloryhole-proof, though many businesses try hard to make it so.

It is nice when you find a bookstore with management-drilled holes which is as it should be. A bookstore in Columbia, MO comes to mind as having some of the best, complete with little covers attached to velcro strips one can use to cover the hole for privacy should you so choose.

(Aaron again). Now you know! Amazing what a fountain of knowledge Keith is, eh? : )—Aaron Lawrence

One of your letters asked you how a glory hole got it's name, and you did not have much of an idea. I didn't either until I watched a documentary on glass blowing the other night. The hole of a glass blowers furnace is sometimes refered to as a gloryhole. The glass blower sticks a long tube into the heat with minerals on the end. He then blows air through the tube to form the glass object. I bet this is where the name came from.
