Why has my chest hair thickened with age?
January 21, 2008
Back when I was a skinny blonde boy, I heard that if I shaved my chest I would grow more hair there. I also heard that once a person starts shaving chest hair he will have to keep shaving it forever because it will start growing faster than normal. Is this true? I trimmed my pubes a couple of times - not too short - and now it seems they are bushier than ever. Is this just age (I'm 43), or was it encouraged by the trimming?
Shaving does stimulate hair follicles, but it is not something you normally need to worry about. In general, shaving your chest will not cause you to grow more hair. And it will certainly not cause so much hair that you start looking like a gorilla.
In regards to your pubic hair, what you are observing is probably coincidence. Trimming your hair does not affect how fast it grows. What you may have noticed may be more due to testosterone than anything. Men produce more of this hormone as they grow older, which has the duel effect of causing both baldness on your head and the increased growth of body hair. So if you have more pubic hair now than twenty years ago, chalk it up as a natural process.
