How can I get rid of crabs?

January 21, 2008
I'm 18 years old and have been have regular anonymous sex since I was about 14. However about 3 months ago I discovered the joys of steamrooms. Unfortunately I picked up crabs, yes I know they are gross, how do I get rid of them? I have tried picking them out myself but they are tough and there is simply too many. Also is there anyway I can continue to enjoy my sex life and prevent getting crabs again?—Anonymous
Wow, you started having anonymous sex at 14? That's pretty young to be cruising tea rooms. Since I started having anonymous sex at age 17 I understand why you like it. Just don't forget how to develop a real romantic relationship along the way. Cruising should be a hobby and a supplement to your life, not a lifestyle in and of itself. Lecture completed, now on to your question.

The bad news is that if you think you have crabs, you probably do. There's those annoying little bugs that you can see crawling around your pubic hair. The good news is that it's not a serious condition, and you don't have to see a doctor to get rid of them. Just head on down to your local pharmacy, and pick up a bottle of the special "de-licing shampoo." They're over-the-counter medications, so you don't need a prescription. There will be several types of these shampoos, including RID and Kwell. Either will do as long as you follow the instructions. If you can't find it, ask the pharmacist where the RID is. You don't have to say why you need it, he'll know, and he'll help you find what you need. A good pharmacist is like a good doctor - he's part of the team to keep you healthy. So don't be afraid to ask if you need to.

While you're there, you'll also want to pick up a bottle of the "de-licing detergent." You'll want to wash any clothes in it that you've worn over the past few weeks, not to mention your towels and bedsheets too. You can use the shampoo while your laundry is running. Once you're done, you'll use a special comb (that came with the shampoo) to remove the dead lice and their eggs. Very simple. Besides the laundry, it'll take you about 20 minutes to do.

Two other things. First, you may need to "reshampoo" yourself a few days later. Read the directions and check yourself daily for the next few weeks in case the shampoo missed any. Second, and this is the unpleasant part, you'll need to tell your sexual partners (any that you can locate, that is!) that you had crabs. It's no fun, but they need to know too, and will be very glad that you told them. If you don't tell them, there's a good chance you'll be reinfected next time you have sex with them.

As for not getting it again, try to play with your partners in a place with decent lighting in it. When you drop to your knees to go down on him, give him a looksie for crabs. Spend lots of time licking his dick while you check him out. It's not always easy buy you may be able to. Also, it doesn't hurt to give him a once-over for signs of STDs while you're doing so. Ooze coming out of his dick, sores, unusual bumps, that sort of thing. If you're not 100% convinced that he doesn't look like he has any diseases then don't play with him.
